THREE SLEEPING SURFACES · MORE FLEXIBILITY

Custom Triple Bunk Beds for Adults & Vacation Rentals

Triple bunk beds are useful when a room needs more sleeping capacity than a standard bunk but does not need—or cannot comfortably fit—a full quad layout.

A triple bunk does not have to mean three beds stacked vertically

For custom work, “triple bunk” can describe several arrangements with three sleeping surfaces. Depending on the room, that may mean a larger lower bed with two upper sleeping areas, a traditional multi-level arrangement where ceiling height allows it, or a custom combination designed around the walls and traffic pattern.

That flexibility is why triple bunk beds are popular in vacation rentals, family retreat homes and ski properties. You gain another usable bed without automatically committing the room to the larger footprint of a quad bunk room.

Most important measurementCeiling height and usable headroom—not simply the total height of the posts.
Access mattersLadders, stairs and openings should follow the room’s traffic pattern rather than just look symmetrical.

When a triple makes more sense than a quad

A triple layout can be the better answer when the room needs additional capacity but also needs open floor space, luggage space or a more relaxed feel. Quad rooms are excellent for dedicated bunk rooms, while triples can work especially well when the room still needs to function like a guest suite.

For adult guests, mattress length and lower-bed comfort matter. Compare our Twin XL Bunk Beds and Queen Bunk Beds pages before deciding which sleeping surfaces belong in the room.

Ceiling height changes the entire design

Triple bunks require deliberate vertical planning. Mattress thickness, guardrail height, upper clearances, lower sitting room, ceiling fixtures and roof slopes all affect whether the layout feels usable. If your ceiling is tight or sloped, start with our low-ceiling planning guide.

Our Heavy-Duty Triple Bunk Beds for Adults guide goes deeper into adult comfort, capacity and room planning.

Nationwide custom bunk-bed experience

For more than 23 years, we have delivered custom bunk beds to properties around the country. That experience matters with unusual rooms because the best layout is often not the most obvious one on paper. We use your room dimensions, photos, mattress preferences and intended guests to narrow the options before a final build is planned.

Triple Bunk Bed Questions

Are triple bunk beds only for children?

No. A custom triple layout can use adult-friendly mattress sizes and be planned for adult guests, depending on the room dimensions, headroom and design.

Does a triple bunk have to be three beds stacked straight up?

No. Custom triple rooms can use several arrangements. We choose the layout based on the room, mattress sizes, ceiling height and access.

Should I choose a triple or a quad bunk room?

A triple can preserve more open room space, while a quad is often the stronger choice when maximum sleeping capacity is the main goal. The room dimensions usually make the decision clearer.

What should I send for a triple-bunk quote?

Send room width and length, exact ceiling height, mattress preferences, photos from several corners and the number/type of guests you want the room to accommodate.

Wood type can change how a stain looks. When choosing a finish, focus on the stain color rather than the wood grain shown here. Grain patterns vary by wood species and individual board. Screen settings and lighting may also affect color; confirm your choice with a physical wood sample.
